MSNBC reports that a U.S. government study has discovered a powerful secret: the more you drink, the more you exercise. And everybody knows that exercise makes you healthy.

Pure hogwash...so you die of liver disease?

this is total bs and dangerous info. liver disease only occures in 20 percent of drinkers. the rest die of car crashs, suicide, and other organ failure. want to lose a military career-believe this drinking helps anything bullshit.

This is the most irresponsible thing I have heard in ages! How idiotic is it to even conjecture such a thing! Alcohol in the body is not a help, but a hindrance to normal healthy function of every organ system! Anyone who buys this crap is a few french fries short of a happy meal.

Wow, you guys!
Have you no sense of humor?

They have it backwards. Its the more you exersise, the more you drink

Fresh

It's from MSNBC, when was the last time they reported anything helpful or Pro-Military? Never!!!

some of you are just to damn serious. get a life. those of you who are taking this so serious are probably SGM, 1SGT, or pussy officers with nothing else to do. not all officers, my bad, just the pussy west point ones

As usual, they have it backwards. Many of the people who engage in sports or other types of heavy exercise, also probably drink more that those who do not. As a former Rugby player, who played for 15 yrs, I consumed way more beer then, than I do now (it was part of the game) But now I rarely drink at all. It didn't bother me then because I would burn it off with all of the exercise, and I was in great shape. Drinking doesn't make you exercise. Exercise allows you to drink more without as many of the negative effects.

No real surprise here. I've been doing 12 ounce curls for 20+ years and my arms are HUGE.

I'm upset with military.com for regurgitating bad reporting by other news agencies. Do your own work. If you want to report something then get and report the original study. I'm now deleting my account because you have proven to be useless. Contact me when you find your journalistic compass.

Shut up you pussies... do you know what humor is? Maybe I only find it funny because its Thursday and I'm on the 6th beer.

I used to have a 6-pack, now I have a half-keg ;) There are some studies that seem to suggest moderate beer consuption, 1 or 2 per day, may have some health benefits. An occasional glass of red wine is good for you also but more beer leading to more exercise is insane. After a good workout, a cold beer tastes great but, like most anything, overdoing it is not good. Even too much exercise or too much water can have harmful effects. The Apostle Paul advocated "All things in moderation" and I have always thought that was good advice. If you lead a reasonably healthful lifestyle most of the time, a few extra beers once in a while or the occasional bacon-double cheeseburger will not kill you. You just have to be smart about it.

Guys I agree with Jared, you people need to get a sense of humor. Stupid people will believe anything, and most our military are not stupid. So back off, and enjoy life while you can.

Moderation is key... also recognizing humor.

When we could drink beer at lunch in the Military, we knew what was funny. If you take this stuff the media lies about too seriously, you need to drink a beer or two. Now that drinking is so bad, the Air Force only needs to run a mile and 1/2, instead of 3 when we drank more.
For the fliers out there, it used to be no smoking 12 hours before flying, and no drinking within 50 ft of the airplane. Oxygen on planes was to cure the hangover.

Boys, I come from a time before the wussification. We drank and smoked and raised Hell whenever we were in port. We didn't wear seatbelts or helmets and we let our kids and dogs ride in the back of our pick-ups. We fired our guns and rifles without earplugs. How the hell can you tell where the incomimg rounds are from with earplugs. We spanked our kids when they were bad, and, we initiated the hell out of new Chiefs and polywogs and were all better for it. I hate Women's lib and all the Pussies of the male gender. Now, Sara Palin is a woman with the pioneer spirit and scares the hell out of Wusses, and all people of questionable gender.
Hell yes Beer is good for you, and if you think otherwise you too have been Wussified!

What's the weather like on Heroin and Meth.. I hear that stuff makes you a better lover and gives you courage and stupidity at the same time... MSNBC... uh... is that MS for Microsoft or Mind Suck! Go hang yourselves.

Who wants to live forever you only live once, live fast and die young when my time comes I'll go. God has a plan for everyone.

I too come from the time when men were men and women were wives.

If yer worried about your liver, put turmeric on all the stuff you eat. It will make your liver longer lived. It's very flavorful, too.

Alcohol misminds brain cells. Rebuild them with the nerve vitamins, the Bs. Powerize them with B-50 Formula---but, only one a-day

You know, I am glad I have a sense of humor and can enjoy stuff like this. After reading most of the comments, that was the down-side of the military, the ones that ruined the fun. GET A LIFE MAGGOTS!!! LET ME SEE YOUR WAR FACE!!!

This is the beginning of Obamanation.

You have to remember..."Milk is for babies...Beer is for MEN!"

Hi, thanks for posting such a nice, albeit politically incorrect story, especially in military circles. Beer and exercise are a fun combination, ask anyone who is a "Hasher" for example. All things in moderation are good, even though the current command philosophy is absolute abstinance from anything other than endlessly chanting the Soldiers Creed etc... I'm kind of scared of this programming that results in broken hearts, minds and relationships in order to sustain the unsustainable deployment tempo. Consumption of alcohol is a time honored cultural tradition, not to be ignored or discarded, it is a positive team-building exercise when done in moderation. I'm sorry to be part of a "broken" army who has forgetten this tradition. The American Revolution was launched from taverns after all!

It would be a sad un-American thing if research findings were censored simply because they don't produce the results certain people approve of. Censorship is not liberty.
