Redskins Owner Dan Snyder Doesn't Want You to Support the Troops in His Stadium
November 1, 2009 by James Barber
Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder has a fundamental misunderstanding of how people like to have a good time. His incompetence has already driven Six Flags into bankruptcy and now he's trying to ruin the game day experience for 'Skins fans at FedEx Field.
Stadium security is now confiscating all cardboard signs at the gate to "protect spectators from getting injured by signs, and also to make sure that everyone can see the action."
Signs are permitted at the hundreds of other other high school, college and NFL game played every single week and I can't find reports of a single incident where someone was assaulted with or accidentally injured by a cardboard sign.
Of course, the ban could be related to Snyder's notoriously thin skin and the open criticism coming from loyal fans about his horrible, horrible team. D.C. Sports Blog has a nice selection of confiscated signs from last week's game.
Free advice for Dan: start Colt Brennan at quarterback for the rest of the season and let the signs back in. Things can't really be any worse and the kid would at least make things interesting.

But Colt has been placed on IR so he can't play. Sir.

Keep this up and fans will opt to stay at home to watch the game on TV because it will be more fun than being there.

What a ridiculously misleading title..you should really work for the New York Times or some other Media outlet that specializes in this kind of crap. I am not a Redskins or Dan Snyder fan but I truly hope that either this is simply a failed attempt at sarcasm or that James Barber is a guest blogger that finally got the chance to express his views while sitting in his mother's basement waiting for the next batch of pizza rolls.

The tiny tyrant banned all signs -- supposedly because of the terrible danger of serious injuries inflicted by signs. Of course, everyone knows the real reason is because those signs say things like "Sell the team, you ridiculous little turd."

Man, I think it is low to ban signs. I guess truth does really hurt. However, because you found a sign that had a hello to a Soldier in Afghanistan, don't use the Soldiers in America to draw attention to your post. I have been in for 15 years, and I am tired of the American Soldier being used for selfish reasons. Until 9/11 we were just guys who you saw as worthless and didnt care if we were deployed to other countries. Where was all this Soldier support back in the 90's and Clinton Era. It took a National Tragedy to get any respect as a Soldier. I mean seriously. It is embarrasing for you to use my fellow Soldiers to gain recognition. Again Support the Soldiers, do not use us to gain notoriety. And for goodness sake man, if you can't handle people bashing you on signs, then make a change and fix your sorry football team. My old high school team in Texas could probably beat the Redskins right now. For real.

I actually like the ban. My reasons have nothing to do with injury or the content of the signs. I feel that if I (or anyone else) pays high $$$ to go to a game, then my field of view shouldn't be BLOCKED by someone in front of me holding up a sign. The only exception is if someone wants to hang a sign in front of them and they sit in the front row, that wouldn't block the view of the game.

Hell, the Skin's suck so bad that I couldn't offload some ticket recently unless I dropped the price to $5 each. That's sad. Signs at a game? Who cares unless they really block the view. I suppose if the idiot wants to hold them up the whole time, the someone can be upset and have a valid point. If you're only holding the sign in case a camera will see it, then I don't think that is a big deal. Go ST. Louis!! You almost beat the worthless Skins and Jaguires and did put the Lions out of thier misery!!!

I bet there won't be any cardboard signs when he shows up for Bankruptcy court.

The Editors should have kept this article from being posted just because of the misleading title. Ridiculous sensationalism. Unworthy of the site.

He has every right to make the rules he is the owner. Just because the Skins are having a bad year does not mean you have the right to be disresptful. Many of fans have forgotten respect and manners and many of children attend to hear adults cursing etc it is disgusting. Stay loyal and faithful to your Team and if you want to help cheer them on through thick and thin.

Hmmph!! The Dan Man must feel that his preventing signs supporting the United States of America's troops in harm's way is not to be commended or supported even though they are the sons and daughters of America's NFL team supporting public. Does he actually think this action will change the 'skins' fortunes in the win-loss column - I think NOT!

I agree with the one person don't use the mililtary to get your point across. Who cares if he wants to ban signs but it is not his intentions to dishonor our military men and women. I have five children in the military and I was also in the navy. When my one daughter went in to the navy in chicago they were banned to go to the city because citizens there were spitting on the sailors. The only State that treated military with honor before 9/11 was Texas. Support our veterans and troops not worry about a sign ban get real people.
